House Launches Endowment Campaign
With gratitude for
past generosity and confidence in future support, we are excited to
announce the Endowment Campaign effort is underway.
Our goal is to raise $5 million over the next three years so that
we can continue to serve our residents (as always, at no cost to them)
well into the future.
A most generous lead
gift $1 million was donated by Tom and Sandy Sullivan.
Friends of Malachi House since our founding, the Sullivans
provided the spark to get this special effort off the ground.
Then, the Board of Trustees worked quickly to match this
donation, keeping the momentum building.
At this time, early gifts from individuals and foundations bring
our total to $2.4 million – nearly half of our goal – and we have
only just begun!
Malachi House
continues to be one-of-a-kind, serving those no one else serves.
A home for the terminally ill who are without caregivers or
financial resources, we provide love, care and companionship to those
less fortunate who have no place else to go.
Over 17 years ago, Fr. Paul Hritz and Kaki O’Neill developed
the idea for Malachi House, and both of them are still very involved
today. Fr. Paul answers
phones and brings donuts to the residents every Wednesday, and Kaki
works diligently securing financial support for the house.
“The same spirit is
alive today as it was those early days,” says Fr. Paul.
“The response of the people, in every regard, still surprises
me.”
The campaign is being co-chaired by George Blaha, Jerry Murphy and
John Sullivan, and the following individuals are serving as committee
members: Jim Gulick, Diane
Kennedy, Joe Lee, John Norris, John Opdycke, Kaki O’Neill and Jim Roop.
The plan for Malachi House has always been to have a strong
endowment that would provide half of the necessary funds for operating
the home. Since the
expansion nearly doubled our capacity to serve more people, we are
growing our endowment so that we may stay on this plan.
“My hope for Malachi House would be that the spirit of the
place, the love that pervades the place, may continue well into the
future,” says Fr. Paul. Our
endowment effort should go a long way in helping to make this happen.
