Malachi House Welcomes New Board Member

Cleveland, OH—February 4, 2010 – The Trustees for Malachi House, a home of love for persons who are terminally ill, elected Donna M. Skurzak, the director of Diversity and Inclusion, for the Cleveland Clinic Regional Hospitals Health System to the Board on November 12, 2009.

Ms. Skurzak, who received her masters in Psychology-Diversity Management at Cleveland State University, is a Certified Diversity Professional who develops and executes diversity training and initiatives for all hospitals and Family Health Centers across the Cleveland Clinic system. Prior to this position, Skurzak was the director for the Visiting Nurse Association of Cleveland Hospice. Her specialties include End of Life Care, Bioethics and Diversity Management. 

Skurzak, the 2003 recipient of the Woman of Professional Excellence Award from the YWCA, Cleveland Chapter; current member of the Public Policy and Membership and Marketing Committees, Ohio Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and former member of the Board of Directors for the Ohio Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (OHPCO) stated, “The work that Malachi House does is so crucial in our community. It is an honor to serve on the Board of Trustees and share in their ministry.”

“We are so grateful to add Ms. Skurzak to our Board,” said Mary Kay Stahley, executive director. “In addition to her diversity and bioethics expertise, she is an experienced health care professional with a strong background in acute care, home health/hospice and extended care. She brings a wealth of knowledge as well as a depth of understanding and passion for our mission to our Home.”

Malachi House, created out of a Christian sense of ministry, serves persons who are terminally ill, without cost or regard to gender, race, religion or national origin. The home ministers to individuals who need an available caregiver, who have limited or no financial resources and are in need of special home care in the final stages of life. A trained staff and volunteers provide spiritual, emotional and physical support with the assistance of a hospice team.
